Il post-apocalittico è un genere parecchio sottovalutato e poco studiato, specialmente in Italia, dove non è affatto facile reperire una bibliografia adeguata che consenta di esplorare il filone a 360°. Con Kaboom! – Cinema post-apocalittico e dintorni, primo volume della collana Bizzarro Magazine (Laboratorio Bizzarro Edizioni, 2011) si è tentato di colmare la lacuna, andando a fondo nel genere per carpirne tutte le sue varianti, dalla serie b alle forme più autoriali. Il post-apocalittico non è semplicemente il genere dei parrucconi anni Ottanta, delle gang di biker sghignazzanti, delle sparatorie in fabbriche abbandonate, degli sport improponibili, dei mutanti radioattivi; è anche il disumanesimo de Il seme dell’uomo di Marco Ferreri, l’interiorità de Il tempo dei lupi di Micheal Haneke, la filosofia del Quintet di Robert Altman. Senza considerare le immani quantità di sfumature nel mezzo. Insomma, un genere valido sia come mero “divertimento” (vista l’ampia libertà d’invenzione), che come potente metafora del mondo e dell’umanità. Per la rassegna Kaboom! - Variazioni sull’Italia post-atomica sono stati selezionati tre “casi unici”, tre titoli tra i meno visti e più particolari della numerosa produzione italiana, generalmente ristretta al campo dei soliti noti, quali Enzo G. Castellari, Sergio Martino e pochi altri, che hanno contribuito a rendere grande il genere nel mondo ma non sono gli unici ad averlo percorso.

«Ecco un post-apocalittico “alieno” su tutta la linea: fumettoso, grottesco e a tratti surreale, a partire dall’insolito plot, che mescola gangster, camorra e fantascienza. Una guerra batteriologica ha devastato l’Europa, si salva soltanto Napoli (l’inquinamento le ha fatto da “scudo”!), ora divisa in due zone distinte – Posillipo e Giunnàpoli – governate da altrettanti capi: un Presidente costantemente sotto attentato che pur di non morire sfodera sosia come fossero bruscolini, e un malavitoso strampalato che tra le tante magagne ha rapito proprio l’ultimo “doppione” del Presidente. La prima parte del film si svolge interamente in cunicoli sotterranei, dove i sopravvissuti a un’apocalisse nucleare hanno creato una nuova società. Due giovani vogliono amarsi liberamente e siccome la legge non consente loro neanche di sfiorarsi, scappano da casa e si ritrovano nel radioattivo e pericoloso mondo esterno. Si tratta, tutto sommato, di una “chiusura” in grande stile poiché, al di là di molte ingenuità di fondo, non manca proprio nulla, dai mutanti agli sport fantasiosi, inseriti in un contesto di scenografie, costumi ed effetti speciali che, per quanto poveri, non hanno affatto quell’aria improvvisata di tanto cinema fantastico italiano. Il post-atomico tricolore alza il tiro, cerca un pubblico più ampio, si svena nel realizzare una messa in scena che non suoni troppo ridicola ma, purtroppo e con grande rammarico, si ferma qui.
